LED lighting solutions for aprons, container yards and terminal operations

Airport & Port Lighting

LED lighting solutions for aprons, container yards and terminal operations

Airport and port lighting must support safe 24/7 operations – from aircraft stands and quay cranes to truck lanes and container stacks. We design LED high-mast and area lighting systems that balance visibility, wind load, maintenance and total operating cost.

• High-mast LED luminaires engineered for tall poles and harsh coastal environments.

• Long-throw floodlights for aprons, quay sides and container yards.

• Area lights for parking, access roads and terminal forecourts.

• Layouts that recognise real operational and maintenance constraints.

We focus on wind load, maintenance and visibility – not just lux numbers

In ports and airports, lighting is tied to tall structures, safety-critical operations and 24/7 logistics. We focus on controllable engineering factors: structural loads, maintenance access, aiming and energy use.

Controllable issueOperational impactOur response
Wind load on high mastsExcessive EPA can trigger structural upgrades.Compact, low-EPA high-mast luminaires like HM01R help stay within existing mast limits.
Maintenance at heightEach intervention involves cranes, lifts or lowering systems.Durable LED platforms and robust surge protection reduce unplanned interventions.
Mixed lighting tasks on one mastAprons, lanes and yards often share a mast headframe.Optic combinations and aiming concepts using SP02 / HM01R cover multiple zones from the same mast.
Energy and light spillUnfocused light wastes energy and can impact neighbours.Optimised optics and aiming reduce spill and direct lumens where needed.

Different operation zones, different lighting logic

We divide airport and port sites into operational zones – aprons, quay areas, container yards,
terminals, access roads and parking – and match each with appropriate LED lighting levels,
optics and luminaire types.

Airport zones

Apron & standsUniform lighting for aircraft stands, service roads and ground handling areas.
Service roads / airside accessBalanced lighting for vehicle circulation and wayfinding.
Landside parking & access roadsComfortable lighting for public parking and arrival/departure zones.

Port zones

Container yardsLong-throw beams and vertical illuminance for stacking and ID markings.
Quay areas & crane zonesFocused lighting on loading points, crane operation and ship interfaces.
Truck gates & access roadsGood visibility for traffic safety and gate operations.

Different sports, different visual requirements

A football stadium, a tennis arena and an ice hockey rink do not share the same visual challenges.
We adapt optics, aiming and lighting levels to create sport-specific LED lighting solutions for each
venue type.

HM01R high-mast luminaire

HM01R High-Mast LED Luminaire

A high-mast LED luminaire designed as a 1:1 concept replacement for HID fixtures on tall poles in ports and airports.

• Lightweight body and low EPA to manage wind load.

• Suitable for 20–45 m masts.

• Robust construction for coastal and open-air environments.

SP02 large area floodlight

SP02 Large Area Floodlight

A long-throw LED floodlight for container yards, quay areas and large aprons where wide coverage is needed.

• Long-throw optics for tall mounting heights.

• Flexible aiming concepts for mixed operation zones.

• Works alongside HM01R on shared mast headframes.

AL01 / AL02 Area & Parking Lights

Area luminaires for landside parking, terminal forecourts and access roads that complement high-mast systems.

• Optics for parking and perimeter lighting.

• Pole or wall mounting for flexible installations.

• Helps create a consistent visual identity across the site.

Frequently asked questions about airport & port LED lighting

Do you provide LED lighting layouts for airport aprons and port yards? +

Yes. We can prepare DIALux / AGI32 layouts that include mast positions, aiming and illuminance maps for aprons, container yards, terminals and access roads.

Can your high-mast luminaires be installed on existing masts? +

HM01R is engineered with weight and EPA in mind, so that it can often be used on existing high-mast poles in ports and airports without major structural changes, subject to engineering verification.

What information do you need to start an airport or port lighting proposal? +

We typically need basic site plans, mast locations and heights, typical operations in each zone and any lighting level requirements. If you are retrofitting from HID, existing luminaire types and wattages are also useful.
