A selectable-wattage sports luminaire can reduce the number of fixed product variants that a distributor or project team needs to manage. It can also preserve some flexibility when the exact operating output is not frozen until commissioning. But selectable wattage is not automatically “smart lighting,” and it is not a substitute for photometric design.

The first question is therefore not “How many wattage settings does the fixture have?” It is “Which decision remains uncertain, and can the selected output be changed safely without invalidating the approved design?”

Critical distinction: a commissioning-set power selector changes the luminaire’s configured maximum output. Dynamic dimming changes output during operation. They solve different problems and should not be marketed as the same function.
